Just how big is Alaska?
571,951 sq mi. (1,4 81,353 sq km), equal to 1/5 of the continental United States.
Alaska is the farthest North, West, and East point of the United States. It crosses the international date line.
Purchased from Russia October 18, 1867 for two cents per acre ($7,200,000). Alaska joined the United States January 3, 1959 as the 49th State.

Pass, about forty minutes north of Valdez, Alaska was the site of
10 World Extreme Ski Championships.
With News Star 2, KTUU was able to provide live reports from the base of the mountain. We had to shoot between mountains to see the satellite.
