Just how big is Alaska?
571,951 sq mi. (1,4 81,353 sq km), equal to 1/5 of the continental United States.

Alaska is the farthest North, West, and East point of the United States. It crosses the international date line.

Purchased from Russia October 18, 1867 for two cents per acre ($7,200,000).  Alaska joined the United States January 3, 1959 as the 49th State.

The Sadler's Midnight Sun UltraChallenge Wheelchair and Handcycle race is 350 miles from Fairbanks to Anchorage.

In July 2002, we met up with the racers on the next to the last day of the race and conducted a satellite media tour for the racers with stations in their home markets. It was a great opportunity to give much needed publicity to this world class race.
