Alaska is the farthest North, West, and East point of the United States. It crosses the international date line.
Purchased from Russia October 18, 1867 for two cents per acre ($7,200,000). Alaska joined the United States January 3, 1959 as the 49th State.

Santa
Claus is coming to town - live via satellite!
For the past three years, News Star 2 has been hired to uplink live shots from the Santa Claus house in North Pole, Alaska.
During 2002, we began our uplink at 3 p.m. EST December 23rd and finished at 11:00 a.m. EST, December 24th (20 straight hours on the satellite) with over 40 stations receiving custom live shots and several generics from the front of Santa Claus house.
